Bilbao, Spain, wasn’t quite what I expected—but in the best way. From the moment I arrived, it felt welcoming and easy to explore, with a mix of old and new that makes it special.

One of my first stops was the Casco Viejo, the old part of the city. The streets are narrow and lined with colorful buildings, full of small bars, shops, and a lively atmosphere. This is where I tried pintxos for the first time—small snacks usually served on bread. Each bar has its own selection, so you can hop from place to place, sampling different ones. The locals often pair them with a glass of Txakoli, a light, slightly sparkling white wine that’s crisp and refreshing.

Walking along the Ría de Bilbao, the river that runs through the city, was one of my favorite parts of the day. The paths are wide and perfect for a slow stroll. I crossed the Zubizuri Bridge, a sleek white pedestrian bridge, and enjoyed how peaceful everything felt, even in the heart of the city.

To wrap up the day, I took a funicular up to Mount Artxanda. The short ride offered great views, and at the top, I could see the entire city stretched out below. Watching the sun set over Bilbao from there was the perfect way to end my visit.

Bilbao isn’t a flashy city, but it has a charm that’s hard to describe. It’s the kind of place where you can enjoy great food, take in beautiful views, and feel like you’re part of something special. If you’re looking for a city that feels manageable but still has a lot to offer, Bilbao might be just what you’re looking for.
